Effectiveness of Mobile Assisted Vocabulary Learning Applications (MAVL) as a self-learning tool for ESL learners in Sri Lanka

The advancements in mobile technologies have changed how teaching and learning processes are conducted the higher education sector. Mobile-Assisted Vocabulary Learning (MAVL) is a part of Mobile Assisted Language (MALL) which now demarcating element ESL (English as Second Language) classroom for language improvement learners. MAVL applications used widely international education, yet Sri Lanka, learners limited to printed materials not enough maximize their updated vocabulary knowledge. among Lankan hardly less than material learn enhance it, creates research gap this study. aims introduce professional practical vocabulary, helping tool, writing competence. has experimented with mixed-method approach, sample twenty five teachers from university questionnaire, interviews, two tests were data collection. results revealed that students found application practical, motivating, helpful. Further, participants had potential use independently, it made conduct lessons efficiently classrooms. illustrated contained positive attitudes toward making mobile-assisted improvements. It can be concluded using Applications self-learning tool would improve learners' teaching-learning process.
